ATSC 3.0 Next Gen TV

In 2020 a new over the air television broadcast format began to roll out throughout North America. As well, this new format was adopted for parts of Europe and beyond.

So what is it? If you wondered about free over the air 4K TV, that’s what it is…in a nut shell. But it’s quite a bit more. For business people and community leaders, ATSC 3.0 Next TV broadcasts allows for enhanced emergency signaling and information that’s more relevant, more targeted geographically to a viewer. And, advertisements can be more interactive compared to simply sitting through a TV commercial.

What equipment or TV do you need to watch ATSC 3.0 Next Gen broadcasts?

Once the roll-out is complete in your market, and in North America which should be through 2020, your market must also broadcast programming in 4K content; that’s a double of must haves before you can watch.

But now for the kicker, you need a TV that has an ATSC 3.0 tuner built in and lots and lots and lots of older TVs in homes today or that are sold in 2020 simply don’t have that required tuner. If this is important to you then make absolute certain the next TV your about to buy has the ATSC 3.0 tuner; if it doesn’t say 3.0 then beware.

Your current TV doesn’t have a 3.0 tuner, so what do you do then? You can buy and install a converter box which has an ATSC 3.0 tuner built in and then connect it to your older TV via an HDMI wire. Ah yes, more gear but hey….now you can finally watch 4K content Free. Naturally, don’t forget to connect an antenna.
