In this article we are going to show you 5 easy steps for connecting your laptop to your TV. In order for this to work you need to have a flat screen TV and the proper connection cables.

Step 1 – Power down your laptop and turn off your TV

Step 2 – Look at this photo above and see if both your laptop and TV have matching jacks, look for either an S video, VGA, DVI or HDMI port. (For example: If your laptop has the S-video then your TV needs to have S-video, don’t mix and match the connectors)

Step 3 – This step assumes, again after looking at the photo above, if you don’t already own the appropriate connection wire(s) you’ve already gone out and purchased it. Now connect the wire to both your laptop and to your TV. As noted in the photo above, if you are using S-Video, VGA or DVI you also need to connect the audio cable shown in the photo above.

Step 4 – Turn on your TV. Using the TV remote select the correct source input that you used to hook up your TV. S-Video is typically labeled, “AV” whereas VGA is often labeled as “PC” and DVI will be labeled “DVI/HDMI”

Step 5 – Boot up your laptop. Usually the laptop will automatically recognize the TV and begin to output your laptop screen onto your TV.
