Logitech Revue featuring Google TV is a fun, powerful but simple way to turn your TV into an Internet content viewer / TV with Google’s friendly search engine. This video shows the step by step setup process.
The day is coming, the day when you are watching a television program, an ad appears you wish you could click on and you can. Or, a reality show is live and you want to participate. That day isn’t too far away.
Google TV has taken the first steps in converging television and Internet. This is the beginning of becoming standard in every home over the next few years but the best part; you can easily set this up on your existing TV….right now. Here’s all you need: Logitech Revue, a TV, Cable or Satellite TV service and high speed Internet. Setup is a snap. Once your setup is complete you can:
1. Press one button and let Logitech Revue turn all your equipment on for you. Yes, one button.
2. Have your own personalized home page listing your very favorite TV channels and websites.
3. Watch TV and check out anything you want to on the internet, both at the same time.
4. Add-on cool features to meet your lifestyle like a security camera to see who’s at the front door. Or, a video phone camera so you can stay in touch with loved ones from afar or just around the corner.
In December of 2011 Logitech released Google TV’s system upgrade. The upgrade will be found automatically as part of all new Google TV units but for older units the users are prompted to download the upgrade the next time they turn on their systems. With a hardwire internet connection the upgrade takes around 15 minutes.
The new Google TV platform is very good and here’s why. When you sit down to watch TV you have two simple options, watch TV or enjoy online content. The new Google TV platform gives you the tools to quickly and easily search for TV programming content or internet content and you can view TV content simultaneous to surfing internet related materials.
This tool is available from a tool bar normally located at the bottom of the TV screen and accessible from the touch of one button on the Logitech wireless keyboard that comes with the kit. Once you touch the Home button you can then search for the programming you want, research online content utilizing a full screen Google search engine tool and watch other application based content such as You Tube, streaming Movies, Sporting event, older Television shows etc.
I’ve had the Logitech Revue for a number of months now and wanted to write an update. First, again I think Google TV and the Logitech Revue are both really teriffic products. That said, its not the Google TV platform that needs improvement but rather the Logitech Revue that does. I love the wireless keyboard because its light weight, works reliably but it has what I feel are some intuitive functionality issues. Sometimes when I use the keyboard its not intuitive. There are buttons I find myself pressing, such as OK, thinking it will perform the enter function but it doesn’t. I suspect its for the OK function on a remote. I think Logitech needs to revisit this. Also click and drag are awkward in my opinion and this should be examined also. When a product is found to be easy to use, natural to use, more and more people will begin to use it. Again, I love the product and feel 100% confident that Google is spearheading what will become a foregone conclusion, the integration of broadcast content with online content into one pretty seamless delivery platform.
