A soundbar that will not pair over Bluetooth is usually on the wrong input, still connected to another device, or not fully in pairing mode. Start with the quick checklist below, then work through the device-specific fixes.

Quick Bluetooth pairing checklist

  1. Select the soundbar’s Bluetooth or BT input.
  2. Place the phone, tablet, TV, or computer within a few feet of the soundbar.
  3. Disconnect other devices that may reconnect to the soundbar automatically.
  4. Forget or remove the soundbar from the device’s saved Bluetooth list.
  5. Put the soundbar back into pairing mode, then search for it again.

Soundbar Bluetooth not pairing? Start pairing mode

Press the Bluetooth or Pair button on the soundbar or remote. Many models require you to hold the button for several seconds until the Bluetooth indicator flashes or the display shows a pairing message. The exact light pattern and button sequence vary, so check the manual for your model if pairing mode does not start.

If the soundbar appears in the Bluetooth list but immediately reports that it cannot connect, it may already be linked to a nearby phone, tablet, TV, or computer. Turn Bluetooth off on those devices temporarily and try again.

Remove old soundbar Bluetooth pairings

Open the Bluetooth settings on the device you want to use. Select the soundbar and choose Forget, Remove, or Unpair. Turn Bluetooth off for about 10 seconds, turn it back on, return the soundbar to pairing mode, and select it from the list.

If the device asks for a PIN, use the code listed in the soundbar manual. Do not repeatedly guess codes or use reset instructions intended for a different model.

Fix soundbar Bluetooth pairing on a phone or tablet

  • iPhone or iPad: Open Settings > Bluetooth, tap the information button beside the soundbar, choose Forget This Device, and pair again.
  • Android: Open Settings > Connected devices or Bluetooth, open the soundbar’s settings, choose Forget or Unpair, and reconnect. Menu names vary by manufacturer.

Temporarily disable Bluetooth on other phones or tablets in the room. A previously paired device can take the connection before the new device finishes pairing.

Fix soundbar Bluetooth pairing with a TV

Confirm that the TV supports Bluetooth audio output; some TVs use Bluetooth only for remotes or accessories. In the TV’s sound settings, choose Bluetooth speaker or Bluetooth audio, start a device search, and select the soundbar. If the TV is already connected through HDMI ARC/eARC or optical, select Bluetooth on both devices during the pairing attempt.

If you decide to use a wired connection instead, see how to connect a soundbar to a TV with an optical cable.

Fix soundbar Bluetooth pairing with a Windows PC or Mac

Remove the soundbar from the computer’s saved Bluetooth devices, restart Bluetooth, and add it again while the soundbar is in pairing mode. After it connects, select the soundbar as the computer’s audio output. If it pairs but is missing from the output list, restart the computer and check for operating-system and Bluetooth-driver updates.

Check range and wireless interference

Pair the devices at close range with a clear path between them. Move Wi-Fi routers, wireless hubs, and other Bluetooth devices away temporarily. After pairing succeeds, test the normal listening position. Walls, cabinets, and crowded wireless environments can reduce reliable range.

Restart safely

Turn off the source device and soundbar. Unplug the soundbar from power for one minute, reconnect it, and repeat the pairing process. Restart the phone, TV, or computer as well. Use a factory reset only when the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model recommend it, because a reset can erase saved inputs, calibration, and network settings.

When the soundbar pairs but has no audio

  1. Select the soundbar as the active audio output on the phone, TV, or computer.
  2. Raise the volume on both the source device and soundbar, and make sure neither is muted.
  3. Pause other connected sources and keep the soundbar on its Bluetooth input.
  4. Disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth, then test with a different audio app.

If the connection drops after pairing, see why soundbar audio keeps cutting out.

When to contact support

Contact the manufacturer if the soundbar never enters pairing mode, does not appear on any compatible device, or repeatedly disconnects at close range after a restart. Record the model number and the indicator-light pattern before calling.

FAQ

Why can’t my phone find my soundbar?

The soundbar may not be in pairing mode, may already be connected to another device, or may be outside reliable range. Disconnect other devices, forget the old pairing, and try again nearby.

Why does my soundbar say Bluetooth connected but play no sound?

The phone, TV, or computer may still be using its built-in speakers or another output. Select the soundbar as the active audio output and check the volume on both devices.

Can any phone pair with any soundbar?

Most current phones can pair with Bluetooth-capable soundbars for basic audio, but supported Bluetooth profiles, codecs, and features vary by model.
