If you are asking what cable do I need for a soundbar, inspect the labels on both devices before buying anything. Use HDMI when both have matching ARC or eARC ports. Otherwise use optical when both have optical ports. Use 3.5mm or RCA only when both sides provide compatible analog audio connections.
For ARC, a sound High Speed HDMI cable is generally the practical choice. For eARC, certified Premium High Speed or Ultra High Speed HDMI cables are designed to support the feature; choose based on the total video capabilities of any devices routed through the soundbar. Certification matters more than luxury branding or exaggerated claims.
Connect the TV’s labeled ARC/eARC input to the soundbar’s labeled HDMI output—not a regular HDMI input. Then enable CEC and select the external audio system. See our HDMI ARC connection guide.
A Toslink optical cable carries digital audio and is easy to recognize by its small squared connector. Remove protective caps and do not kink it. Optical is a good choice for older TVs, simpler soundbars, or persistent HDMI control problems. Follow the full optical soundbar setup.
A 3.5mm stereo cable works from a TV headphone/audio-out jack to a soundbar AUX input. A 3.5mm-to-RCA cable can bridge a headphone output to red/white analog inputs. Do not connect a TV’s red/white input sockets; inputs cannot feed the soundbar.
After matching ports, compare a certified HDMI cable for eARC or a Toslink optical cable. For a broader comparison, read how to connect a soundbar to a TV.
Some do and some do not. Check the box contents; the included type may not be the best connection your TV supports.
A compliant cable either carries the required digital signal reliably or it does not. Choose certified capability, suitable length, and solid construction rather than extravagant claims.
Usually no. USB ports commonly provide service, updates, or media playback rather than the TV’s live audio output.
