Resetting a soundbar can solve missing audio, frozen controls, failed Bluetooth pairing, app connection problems, and an HDMI ARC or eARC handshake that will not recover. The word “reset,” however, can mean two different things. A simple power reset is safe and preserves your preferences. A factory reset erases saved settings and should be used only after simpler checks.
Start with a power reset when the soundbar has no sound, does not respond normally, will not connect to the TV, or behaves strangely after a power interruption. A power reset cuts residual power and forces the TV and soundbar to negotiate their HDMI connection again.
Use a factory reset only when a power reset, cable check, and input check have not solved the problem, or when you are giving the soundbar to someone else. A factory reset can remove Wi-Fi details, Bluetooth pairings, app connections, sound modes, and subwoofer settings.
Take a photo of the soundbar’s current settings in its companion app or make a short list. Include your HDMI input, sound mode, subwoofer level, surround level, Wi-Fi network, and paired Bluetooth devices. This lets you restore the setup quickly if you need a factory reset.
If you have a wireless subwoofer or surround speakers, leave them powered on during a normal power reset. Do not press pairing buttons unless the manufacturer’s directions call for it; doing so can create a new problem by breaking an otherwise good wireless connection.
Turn off the TV, soundbar, and any connected source devices. Unplug the soundbar from power for at least 60 seconds. If you use HDMI ARC or eARC, unplug the TV for the same minute as well. This clears an interrupted HDMI handshake more effectively than switching the devices off with their remotes.
While the equipment is unplugged, inspect the HDMI cable. It should be firmly seated in the HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC on the TV and the corresponding HDMI output port on the soundbar. A loose cable can look like a failed soundbar even though the audio-return connection is simply unstable.
Reconnect the HDMI cable, plug the TV back in, then plug in the soundbar. Turn on the TV first and the soundbar second. In the TV menu, select the soundbar as the audio output and give the devices a minute to recognize each other.
A reset does not always return the soundbar to the input you expect. Use the Input or Source button on the soundbar remote and select HDMI, TV, ARC, eARC, optical, Bluetooth, or the input that matches your actual connection. The source label varies by brand.
If you use an optical cable, select Optical or D.IN rather than HDMI. If you use a cable box connected directly to the soundbar, select the soundbar’s HDMI input. Testing the right input before factory-resetting can save a great deal of time.
Consider a factory reset when the soundbar will not respond to known-good input and cable settings, cannot be found by its official companion app after a power reset, or repeatedly freezes. Find the reset steps for your exact model in its manual or official support page. Common methods include holding a button on the soundbar, holding a remote combination, or using a reset option in the settings menu.
Do not use instructions for a similar model. Button combinations differ, and holding the wrong buttons may start pairing mode or activate a service function instead of performing a reset.
After a factory reset, reconnect the soundbar to the TV first. Confirm audio works before adding Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a subwoofer, or additional speakers. Then restore settings one at a time. This approach makes it obvious which connection, setting, or device caused trouble if the problem comes back.

A power reset normally does not. A factory reset usually does, so record settings first.
One full minute is a good minimum. If you are also resetting the HDMI connection, unplug the TV for the same period.
Check the TV audio-output setting, selected soundbar input, and the ARC/eARC cable connection. The problem may be configuration rather than the soundbar itself.
