A soundbar that turns on by itself is usually responding to another device, a standby feature, or a stored Bluetooth connection—not failing on its own. Notice when the soundbar turns on. If it wakes when the TV turns on, when a cable box starts, or when you select an HDMI input, HDMI-CEC is the likely cause. If it wakes overnight with the TV off, a Bluetooth device, network standby, automatic update, or a brief power interruption is more likely. This small observation prevents unnecessary resets.

1. Check HDMI-CEC and ARC/eARC control

HDMI-CEC lets a TV, soundbar, streaming device, and receiver exchange power and volume commands. It is convenient when it works properly, but it can make a soundbar wake whenever the TV or another HDMI device becomes active. Different brands use names such as Anynet+, Bravia Sync, Simplink, VIERA Link, EasyLink, or simply HDMI Control.

Open the TV’s settings and look under HDMI, external devices, or general settings. Temporarily turn off HDMI-CEC or HDMI Control, then watch whether the soundbar remains off. If the unwanted power-on stops, turn CEC back on only if you need TV-remote volume control and test one connected device at a time. A cable box, game console, or streaming stick may be sending the wake command rather than the TV itself.

2. Turn off automatic power and network standby

Many soundbars include options named Auto Power, Auto Wake, Standby Through, Network Standby, Bluetooth Standby, or Auto Input. These features intentionally wake the soundbar when they detect activity.
