Quick answer: A television that keeps restarting is often reacting to a temporary software lockup, an unstable power connection, HDMI-CEC commands, a faulty external device, overheating, or a failed update. Disconnect accessories and network connections, complete one proper power reset, and use a factory reset only after the safer checks are exhausted.
A restart loop is different from a TV that turns on once and immediately goes dark. If the set never reaches a logo or home screen, start with TV Won’t Turn On. If it powers off and remains off, use our guide for a TV that turns on and then off.
Watch one full cycle and write down what appears: a brand logo, a loading animation, the home screen, a picture from an HDMI device, or only a changing standby light. Note how many seconds pass before the next restart.
Unplug the TV, then remove every external connection except its power cord. Include streaming sticks, game consoles, cable boxes, soundbars, USB drives, antenna/coaxial cables, and wired network cables.
Reconnect the TV directly to a wall outlet and start it with its physical button. If the loop stops, reconnect one item at a time. The last connected device or cable that makes the loop return is the leading suspect.
If the TV uses Wi-Fi, turn off the router briefly while testing. A malfunctioning app, cloud service, or update check can sometimes trigger repeated restarts after the home screen loads. If the TV becomes stable offline, update the television and its apps before reconnecting normal services.
This clears temporary memory without erasing your settings. Repeating the reset many times will not repair hardware and can complicate an update that is still in progress.
Reseat a removable power cord and check it for cuts, looseness, bent pins, melting, or discoloration. Test the outlet with another appliance. A worn power strip can pass enough power for a standby light but drop voltage when the TV starts.
See the recommended surge-protecting power strip on Amazon.

Make sure vents are not covered by fabric, dust buildup, a tight cabinet, or objects placed against the rear panel. Turn the TV off and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Do not spray cleaner or compressed air into the cabinet.
If the TV stays on long enough to use settings, temporarily disable HDMI-CEC. Manufacturers may call it Anynet+, Simplink, Bravia Sync, or another name. Also check sleep timers, automatic on/off schedules, eco modes, and “power on with mobile” settings.
If the problem disappears, re-enable features one at a time rather than leaving every convenience setting disabled.
Use the television’s normal Settings menu to install an official update only if the set remains on reliably. Do not unplug it during installation. Do not install a USB firmware file unless it came from the manufacturer for the exact model and region.
If the loop began immediately after an update, follow the manufacturer’s model-specific recovery instructions. Generic button combinations can erase data or make recovery harder.
If the restart happens only after launching one streaming app, update or reinstall that app. Check for available storage and remove unused apps if the TV reports that storage is full. A television that restarts before reaching the home screen is unlikely to be fixed by changing an individual app.
A factory reset erases apps, accounts, channels, Wi-Fi credentials, and customized picture and sound settings. Use the Settings menu when possible. If the TV cannot reach the menu, use only the forced-reset procedure published for your exact model.
Service is appropriate when the TV restarts with only the power cord attached, does the same thing in a confirmed outlet, cannot complete its official recovery process, overheats quickly, or shows a repeating diagnostic light. Record the timing, light pattern, last successful screen, and whether the loop began after an update or power event.
Start the Gadget Wiz interactive TV diagnosis and describe exactly where the restart occurs.
