Television frozen on a startup logo and loading screen

Quick answer: A TV frozen on its logo screen has power and is beginning to boot, but startup is not completing. The safest fixes are to wait for a possible update, remove all external devices, perform one proper power reset, check for a stuck physical button, and use the manufacturer’s recovery or factory-reset procedure only as a last software step.

A visible logo is useful evidence: the screen and at least part of the power system are working. If the TV never displays a logo or glow, begin with our TV won’t turn on guide. If it repeatedly returns to the logo, also review TV turns on then off immediately.

Important: Do not unplug the television if an update progress message or percentage is actively changing. Interrupting firmware installation can prevent the TV from starting. If there is no progress indicator and the same logo has remained unchanged for 15–20 minutes, continue below.

1. Decide Whether It Is Truly Frozen

Watch the screen for several minutes. A moving spinner, changing percentage, or occasional screen change may indicate a normal update or first-time setup. A logo and loading indicator that never changes for 15–20 minutes is more consistent with a frozen startup.

Write down the exact last screen you see. A brand logo, Google TV logo, Roku logo, recovery menu, and “installing update” screen lead to different next steps.

2. Remove Every External Device

Unplug the TV. Disconnect HDMI cables, USB drives, memory cards, antenna/coaxial cables, Ethernet, soundbars, streaming sticks, and any adapter connected to the television. Leave only the power cord.

A faulty USB device, HDMI-CEC command, or incompatible accessory can interrupt startup. If the television reaches its home screen with accessories removed, reconnect one item at a time after it is stable.

3. Check That No Physical Button Is Being Held

Inspect the TV’s Power or multi-function button. Make sure the cabinet, wall mount, furniture, or an object is not pressing it. Remove the remote batteries temporarily in case a stuck remote button is repeatedly sending a command.

This check is especially important when the television enters a recovery screen without you intentionally requesting it.

4. Perform a Proper Power Reset

  1. Unplug the television from the wall.
  2. Hold the TV’s physical Power button for 15–30 seconds.
  3. Wait at least one full minute.
  4. Plug the set directly into a confirmed wall outlet.
  5. Start it with the physical button, leaving every accessory disconnected.

This is not a factory reset. It clears temporary memory and does not normally erase apps, accounts, channels, or Wi-Fi settings.

5. Disconnect the Network Temporarily

If you already removed Ethernet, turn off the Wi-Fi router for one startup test. A TV that freezes only after reaching an online service may be reacting to an app, account, or incomplete network update. Once stable, reconnect the network and install official updates from the normal Settings menu.

6. Try “Reboot System Now” If Recovery Mode Appears

Some Google TV and Android TV models display a recovery menu. Choose Reboot system now before any erase or factory-reset option. Navigation may require the remote, physical buttons, or a single multi-function button, depending on the exact model.

Do not select “apply update from USB,” “wipe data,” or similar options unless you have verified the manufacturer’s instructions for your model.

7. Use the Manufacturer’s Exact Forced-Restart Procedure

Forced restart button combinations vary by brand, model, and number of physical buttons. Find the model code on the rear label or original receipt, then use the official support page for that model. A sequence for a similar-looking television may do nothing—or may erase settings unexpectedly.

8. Update Software Only After the TV Boots Reliably

If the TV finally reaches its home screen, keep accessories disconnected and install any official update from Settings. Do not interrupt power during installation. Avoid firmware files from forums, file-sharing sites, or a different regional model.

9. Consider a Factory Reset as the Last Software Test

A factory reset removes installed apps, accounts, saved channels, Wi-Fi credentials, and customized settings. Use it only after the non-destructive checks. If the Settings menu is unavailable, follow the manufacturer’s exact recovery instructions and note that some models require two people or a specific sequence of physical buttons.

If a factory reset completes and the TV immediately freezes again before any apps or devices are added, professional diagnosis is appropriate.

10. Know When the Problem Needs Service

Request service if the television remains stuck with only its power cord attached, official recovery fails, the recovery menu keeps returning, the TV cannot complete an update, or the standby light repeats an error pattern. Stop using it immediately for burning smells, smoke, unusual heat, arcing, or breaker trips.

Fast Result Guide

  • Boots after accessories are removed: Isolate the external device, HDMI cable, or USB device.
  • Boots only with the router off: Update the TV and apps before restoring normal networking.
  • Recovery menu appears: Try Reboot system now before an erase.
  • Factory reset completes but the logo freeze returns: Hardware or storage failure becomes more likely.
Power protection: Once the television is working normally, a quality surge-protecting power strip can help protect connected equipment during future power events. See the recommended surge-protecting power strip on Amazon.
